Meet One of BeholD's Apprentice Doulas

Hi!

My name is Melina Patterson. I was raised in Jackson, Georgia but over the past few years, Athens has become my home. I am graduating in May from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Science and a minor in Spanish.

 Some more details about me:

I grew up on a farm, running around with my favorite Great Pyrenees, Mojo.

My “receiving” love language is attentiveness and when people remember details about me, and my “giving” love language is making people my homemade lattes or baked goods!

Today, the most important people in my life are my two sisters - the only people who can quote the entire “Horton Hears a Who” movie with me.

Why birth work?

My 3 favorite areas to study in college were communication within marriage and family systems, prenatal development, and maternal health. My deep interests in these subjects led me to attend courses, study, and work towards a DONA birth doula certification! I have a passion for preparing a team and environment in which women desire to bring their babies into the world! I believe your birth story is so important for the beginning of your parenting journey with each child, and I am dedicated to helping women believe in themselves and decide how that story will unfold!
